L-5-Methyltetrahydrofolate

Folic acid is important for cell growth, DNA synthesis and red blood cell production, especially for young women and expectant mothers.  The common folic acid supplements aren't very efficient because they must be metabolized for absorption and only a small percentage of folate actually makes it into the body.

L-5-MTHF, also known as L-5-Methyltetrahydrofolate, the active form of folic acid, scientifically advanced form of reduced folate that boasts long-lasting stability, high solubility and better bioavailability than the leading brands. By supplementing with L-5-MTHF, you can directly improve the folate levels and make a truly dramatic difference in your health. It's the future solution of folic acid science helping secure the health of generations.

Benefits of L-5-MTHF

•Improve DNA synthesis and repair

•Improve genetic expression

•Improve dopamine metabolism

•Important role in detoxification

There is a great importance of L-5-MTHF to genetic expression. It is the key to health that methyl group (provided indirectly by L-5-MTHF) should’t activate the certain gene in a certain period. Cancers and childhood leukemia are also associated with Inadequate levels of L-5-MTHF. When L-5-MTHF is lacking, these tumor promoter genes become active and trouble begins, but high doses of L-5-MTHF can reverse precancerous cellular changes and keeps tumor promoter silenced.

L-5-MTHF also plays a role in dopamine, epinephrine, serotonin, and estrogen metabolism. The lacking of folic acid is a consistent finding in depression because L-5-MTHF plays a role in forming S-adenosylmethionine, which is the compound that directly donates methyls to DNA and to serotonin and dopamine; Inadequate levels of L-5-MTHF also cause potentially toxic build-up of estrogens in the body and lead to potentially worsen allergy and stress-related symptoms.

L-5-MTHF can also provide lower homocysteine levels and less blood vessel clogging which means L-5-MTHF can decrease the risk of heart attack, stroke, sensorineural hearing loss, osteoporosis, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease and even complications of diabetes.

In summary, L-5-MTHF supplementation may be a more favorable method of folate repletion

Tips & Date

Supplementation with high doses of folic acid could mask a vitamin B12 deficiency. Supplementation with 5-MTHF appears to sidestep the that potential problem.

Safety & Dosage

In doses typically administered for therapeutic purposes, L-5-MTHF is considered non-toxic. L-5-MTHF are considered safe during pregnancy, with a recommended intake of 800 mcg daily.

Generally, doses greater than 10 mg per day of folic acid have been used in conditions such as cervical dysplasia, and up to 50 mg daily of L-5-MTHF has been used in neuropsychiatric conditions.
